Rise & Shine with Rise Futures

CSR

23 December 2022

Do you remember the 'Steps towards a better future' charity walk the Sygna team took part in, in May 2021? Well, the funds raised for charity Rise Futures are still making a huge impact today.

Last Christmas we worked with Rise Futures mentors to deliver a 'Gift of opportunity' to young vulnerable children across the City of London. This campaign was extremely eye-opening, with requests with largely practical or comfort benefits. Items such as warm coats, winter boots, bikes to help them save on transportation costs, and even a mattress.

This December we launched our 'Rise and Shine' campaign with Rise Futures where 21 care-experienced young people were supplied a gift box.

These young people were under the care of the City of London and are now living independently. Rise Futures mentors took referrals from social workers in the City of London to make sure that this campaign affected those young people who needed this opportunity the most in the most impactful way.

Care-experienced young people leave our care system at the age of 18 and live independently. As this cohort of young people navigate living independently from the age of 18 with no family support, they are extremely vulnerable to negative influences and outcomes.

The Rise and Shine gift boxes supported these young people with essential items - food to support them through the month of December, toiletries, hygiene products, kitchen essentials, and also a Christmas gift to make them smile. Each young person also received a bottle of aftershave or perfume.

The Rise and Shine gift boxes were humbly received by all of the young people. Rise Futures mentor Maryanne said, "we were so fortunate to see smiles and pure happiness when we delivered these gift boxes. These young people have never received a gift like this before and were so thankyou to Sygna for offering this opportunity to support them over this Christmas month"

December is a month many people look forward to but it can often highlight the differences in society, if you are living independently without a family this can be a lonely time of year.  These packages showed the young people that we care.
