Research Laboratory Refurbishment - White City, London

Client: Public Research University

Size: 4,000 sq.ft

Appointment: Contractor-Side Commissioning (CxC)

Our client embarked on a critical refurbishment project within their Clinical Research Building (CRB). Spanning 3,000 square meters across levels 2 to 6, this initiative aimed to provide state-of-the-art laboratory spaces for research teams.

The project involved upgrading infrastructure, optimising laboratory environments, and ensuring compliance with stringent safety and operational standards, particularly for CL3 laboratories. The commissioning process played a key role in verifying the functionality and efficiency of essential engineering service systems, contributing to the overall success of the facility.

Added Value

  • Daily liaison with trade contractors and specialists to ensure smooth workflow.

  • Independent monitoring and management of all commissioning processes.

  • Close supervision of commissioning outcomes to validate the CL3 Laboratories successfully.

  • Ensuring organisation and effective communication among all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing independent technical and management support to the principal MEP subcontractor during preconstruction, construction, and commissioning phases.

  • Ensuring the project remains on track by navigating issues in real-time to mitigate potential delays.

  • Verifying and documenting that engineering service systems perform according to the design documentation.

  • Facilitating a structured and efficient project close-out and handover process.

Project Success

The successful refurbishment of the CRB has resulted in a high-functioning research environment, with fully validated CL3 laboratories and well-integrated engineering service systems. Effective collaboration, proactive problem-solving, and diligent monitoring were instrumental in achieving project goals within the designated timeframe.
