Royal Albert Hall, South Kensington, London.

Client: Royal Albert Hall

Size: Various projects

Our appointment with one of the United Kingdom's most treasured and distinctive buildings is ongoing. During our appointment so far we have undertaken various roles throughout the years, including Project management for BMS upgrades and major plant upgrade works, as well as coordinating routine maintenance shutdowns that were previously designed by us.

It is a listed building so all works are checked by Westminster council. Any installation of new electrical supplies requiring a shutdown is normally coordinated with maintenance weeks in advance.

Before the switchgear maintenance, we had to design some enabling systems so that they could maintain power to key systems.

Some of our projects include:

  • Chiller Replacement: Installation of 2 new 500kW Turbocor water cooled chillers in the basement complete with condenser water circuit and new dry air cooler heat rejection system with evaporative spray system located in the south steps area of the building.

  • Steam Distribution Replacement: Replacing all steam distribution within the building with new LTHW distribution, this also involved detailed and complex asbestos survey and removals from within the Victorian service distribution tunnels and risers.

  • Installation of new cold room store to serve catering areas in the building, including refurbishment of existing cold rooms.

  • New crew catering canteen and kitchen facilities including new kitchen extract system.

  • Creation of new staff dining facilities in the basement.

  • Refurbishment of the Elgar room including the bar/dining room and kitchen facilities.

  • Creation/fit out of the new café concert bar & restaurant/kitchen facilities on the ground and first floor for customer use.
